Walton Marina Newsletter

 August 2008

Thanks for a great season

Well September sure turned out to be a surprise! It looks likes we are heading into our third weekend of beautiful sunny weather.

Last weekend was a beautiful weekend for the Walton Marina Social Group “River Quiz” and it was great to see so many people taking part. We even heard that there was hardly any cheating going on! A big thank you to Susanne Oud and Debbie Green, who I am sure you will all agree, did a fantastic job heading up the social group this year. If you are not a member of the social group and wish to find out some more information on it, please drop Susanne an email on Susanne.oud@brieurope.com

Our coffee mornings have now come to an end for the year and we were delighted with how many people showed up. It was so nice to catch up with you all over coffee and goodies. Although they have “officially” ended, next weekend (Saturday 4th October), we suggest that maybe we could squeeze a final one in? So come on over to the office and we will have some coffee and pastries for you. Hope to see you there.

D&R Engineering

Nobody likes to see summer coming to an end but it is now time to turn our thoughts to the

winter season.

It is very important to have your boat properly winterized and take extra care to make sure that it is properly secured.

Many of you will want to take precautions to protect your boats from the elements and make sure that they are ready for when the new season arrives

Giles and Ian from D&R Engineering have enclosed their winter work schedule with this newsletter. Please remember that hard standing is allocated on a first come first served basis and space is limited.

News from Walton Marine

Walton Marine has pleasure in announcing two new key locations to complement our existing boat sales operations.

The first is at Universal Marina on the River Hamble near Southampton, where we will be

focusing on showing the biggest range of new Jeanneau powerboats in the UK – this office is now open and can be  contacted on 01489 565444.

The second new office, opening soon, in Cardiff at Cardiff Marina, will be focusing on new and used Jeanneau and Aquador and will also offer a full brokerage service.

Walton Marine is delighted to have been appointed as Aquador agents by Sea Ventures. Aquador, owned by Bella Boats since 2000, are one of the leading manufacturers of Scandinavia, building a range of powerboats from 21’ – 32’ in Finland. For further details please stop by the office or email aquador@waltonmarine.co.uk.

Red Diesel Update

The British Marine Federation (BMF), RYA (Royal Yachting Association) and Inland Waterways Association (IWA) have provided an update on how the end of the derogation on red diesel will be implemented as of 1 November 2008.

Following extensive cooperation with Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), private pleasure craft owners will be able to continue to use red diesel for propulsion use, but at a modified duty rate.

To read the rest of the press release and keep up to date with the latest developments, please check the British Marine Federation website www.britishmarine.co.uk

For Sale Board

It has been suggested by a berth holder that you may like a “For sale/Exchange” board at the marina office. If you think it is a good idea, let us know and we will put one up for you. Also would there be any interest in having a boat jumble in the Spring to kick off the new season? Drop us a line and let us know and if there is enough interest we will organize it.

Around the marina

We are still having a bit of a problem with owners not clearing up after their dogs. Please use the bin provided and not subject others to your dog’s mess.

*****

Please be aware that in damp and wet conditions the pontoons can become slippery. Please take extra care when enjoying the marina in these conditions. During the winter season we will aim to pressure wash every pontoon.

Adam has asked that if you have any concerns with repairs or safety on the marina could you report it to the office either in person or by letter so that any problem areas can be looked at. Alternatively send an E-mail to:

waltonmarina@tingdene.net

Please may we remind all moorers that the rubbish disposal facilities are for normal domestic waste only, and must not be used to dispose of contaminated or unsanitary waste? Also, nothing is to be left beside them. If it can’t fit in the bin, well that’s a pretty good indicator that it shouldn’t be there. Many thanks.
