Racecourse Marina News

Spring 2008 Issue

Welcome Back

To all who have been away for the winter period: we hope that this year will be an even better year than 2007.

With the new season upon us we can look forward to good boating weather come the spring and summer, so we can all explore the river and the wonderful scenery & wildlife, which we are so fortunate to have.

Of course we have our resident swans, heron ducks and kingfisher; but someone sighted an otter in mid-February, which has created a lot of interest. If anyone else comes across this wonderful creature could they please inform the office?

WiFi Internet Access

The SQUARE MILE provider of wireless connection is changing to BT OPENZONE, giving you wider usage around the UK.

Please pick up a leaflet in the office or go onto www.btopenzone.com/marina for the latest information.

Narrow boat Moorers

We apologize to existing berth holders for all the upheaval in creating the new berths.  The works should proceed soon and we anticipate quick completion.  Please bear with us a bit longer.

Waste disposal

We should all get into the habit of recycling to comply with new regulations, and we will be getting new bins soon.

Please note it is already PROHIBITED to dispose of any hazardous materials in the Sita blue bins provided.

Also, if you have any larger items to be disposed of then these MUST be taken directly to the local tip and not to be left in the blue containers placed around the Marina. Cost may be passed–on to individuals for misuse.

Pollution

Once again, may we please remind our moorers not to empty bilges into the Marina basin. Apart from this being a hazard to our wild life, a cause of damage to boats and an unsightly mess which has to be cleared up, it is also an offence which carries a fine by the Environment Agency.

Parking

There are still several people driving TOO FAST THROUGH THE CAR PARK. Please beware that there are children about, who may come out from between the cars at any time.

Safety of Children

Please don’t carry children in the luggage trolleys: it is dangerous, and one little slip could end in tragedy. Please ensure they wear lifejackets or buoyancy aids at all times, and make sure they do not stay on the pontoon unsupervised.

Insurance

Recent guidelines suggest that third-party liability cover for boat owners is held at a minimum value of £3 million, as part of a fully comprehensive policy. You may well find that your policy already includes third-party cover to this level, but if not we would advise the increase in cover.

Talking about insurance, should you bring in a contractor to do any work on your boat than you will need to inform the contractor, that before commencing the work they must report to the marina office, sign-in, and produce a copy of liability insurance with a minimum value of £5 million third-party cover.

Marina Maintenance

Help us to help yourself with the task of making the Marina a better environment by informing a member of marina staff if you have noticed any item such as pontoon, fingers etc., needing repair or attention. Thank you.

TV Aerials

TV aerials must be kept at a low level and should not be taller than the boat, in particular on the far bank were the

rules state that no high obstruction should be visible.

Main Gate Security

Please be aware that NO ONE should be let into the marina without a card, and please make sure that when you drive through the gate no one follows you. In case someone still enters and you don’t know who they are, please don’t confront them, but take their car number plate so that we can investigate the matter further if necessary. Thank you.

Boat Sales

If you are thinking of selling, we are able to offer you competitive brokerage rates and can help establish the fair market value for your boat. We can arrange transportation to give your boat a chance at a different location and in most cases we can offer you 3 months free moorings at our site at Windsor.
