Spring 2009 Issue
Welcome Back
Now the winter is over and we are nearing the new boating season we can only hope that the weather will be kinder to us this year. They always say that after a severe winter we can expect a decent summer. Looking back over the past two years we all have deserved a respite from the awful weather conditions and the river floods.
Summer event
Just to make a note in your diaries, this year we will have a summer hog roast on Saturday the 4th July and this event will be organized by the Marina Club. All our holiday home owners and marina berth holders are invited. Please contact the Marina Club to reserve your place.
Smokeless Fuel
Please may we ask those of our customers who use stoves and so on to consider all marina users, and burn smokeless fuel? Thank you.
Just on an Egg note
This spring we had a strange (for us at least) visitor, she was a white goose but must have been a slight cross between a white goose and a Canadian goose, who came here and decided to lay three eggs and set on them in the most inappropriate place in the open and near the boat Leanne. Moorers passing by during the day decided to look after her by providing bread and water but this turned out to be somewhat negative as it attracted four crows that were very eager to get the food and at the same time harassed the goose in getting to her eggs time and time again. One morning when I looked out of my window I noticed that the goose had flown the nest and left the eggs with the crows. And as nature is, the goose has not been seen again.
Pollution
Once again, may we please remind our moorers not to empty bilges into the marina. Apart from this being a hazard to our wild life, a cause of damage to boats and an unsightly mess which has to be cleared up, it is also an offence which carries a fine by the Environment Agency.
Internet Access
For some time we have had signal difficulties with the BT Openzone. But we are pleased to announce that BT Openzone have improved the signal strength over the whole of the Tingdene site by installing three additional aerial boosters which will have improved the signal strength throughout the Marina and park home site. If you would like to use their facility please pick up a leaflet in the office.
Waste disposal
Just a word of thanks to all who since we have changed the waste disposal for the “greener” solutions have helped in segregating the waste accordingly. Sometimes we find that large items such as TVs, beds, cabinets, etc. are dumped by a few: “what a shame”. Please may we ask that if you have any larger items to be disposed of then these MUST be taken directly to the local tip, and not to be left in the blue containers placed around the Marina. Should this be abused, than we will have to pass any disposal charges to all of our customers. Please note it is already PROHIBITED to dispose of any hazardous materials in the Sita blue bins provided.
Parking
We have been made aware again of the fact that there are several people driving TOO FAST THROUGH THE CAR PARK. Please beware that there are children about and may come out from between the cars at any time.
Please drive slowly !
In addition to this, we have been allowed by the Racecourse owners to use a limited amount of parking spaces near the boatyard end of the marina with the understanding that on the race days we vacate the horse box site (which is the site near the boatyard) if there are any vehicles parked within the prohibited times then these vehicles WILL be towed away from site at the owners own risk.
Further tariff freeze
In our last newsletter we announced that we would be freezing the annual tariff for those who pay their annual mooring fees in advance. We are delighted to extend this to our berth holders who currently pay monthly by direct debit who will also not see an increase in their mooring fees in 2009.
TV Aerials
For anyone not aware of this (as per the marina rules) TV aerials must be kept at a low level and should not be taller than the boat in particular on the far bank, where the rules state that no high obstruction should be visible. This is due to the Racecourse horse race days.
Safety of Children
Please don’t carry children in the luggage trolleys: it is dangerous, and one little slip could end in tragedy. Please ensure they wear lifejackets or buoyancy aids at all times, and make sure they do not stay on the pontoon unsupervised.
Insurance
Recent guidelines suggest that third-party liability cover for boat owners is held at a minimum value of £3 million, as part of a fully comprehensive policy. You may well find that your policy already includes third-party cover to this level, but if not, we would advise the increase in cover, should you bring in a contractor to do any work on your boat than you will need to inform the contractor, that before he commences the work he reports into the office to sign-in and produce a copy of liability insurance with again a minimum value of £5 million.
Boat Insurance
You may be considering changing boat insurance for your boat for the coming season, and if you are not already insured with Haven Knox-Johnston they will offer a 10% reduction in premium if you are moored within a Tingdene Marina.
We have also negotiated a further 5% discount with Haven Knox-Johnston for all Tingdene Marinas Loyalty card holders. If you would like a quote for insuring your boat please contact H.K-J on 01732 223600.
Marina Maintenance
You help us with the task of making the Marina better by informing a member of marina staff if you have noticed any item such as pontoon, fingers etc., needing repair or attention. Thank you. We have also begun to cut back the overhanging branches in the Millstream which will make the navigating of this section easier. It will take a little while but should be ready for the coming season.
Main Gate Security
Please be aware that NO ONE should be let into the marina without a card, and please make sure that when you drive through the gate no one follows you. In case someone still enters and you don’t know who they are, please don’t confront them, but take their car number plate so that we can investigate the matter further if necessary. Thank you.
Boat Sales
If you are thinking of selling, we are able to offer you competitive brokerage rates and can help establish the fair market value for your boat. We can arrange transportation to give your boat a chance at a different location and in most cases we can offer you 3 months free moorings at our site at Windsor.
