The Thames & Kennet Marina is based just outside Reading in a nature reserve and incorporates a narrow boat and cruiser marina. With the ability to cater for a number of types of boats, including Dutch barges, the facility is unique in the area and has the best access to the Thames River and Kennet canal. As a new facility, all amenities are up to date and as a part of the Tingdene Group of companies, standards are always high and maintenance and development ongoing.
With two specific marinas, ample parking and easy access for numerous areas in and around Reading, this new site has everything a boater wants and more. We welcome long and short term berths to the facility so, just because you are not permanently in the area it does not mean you cannot make the most of these great facilities.
The specially designed picturesque narrow boat marina has been created to maximise manoeuvrability. With all the latest facilities, pontoons are coupled with a luxurious site with state of the art security and facilities making this the ideal place to site a boat for weekend or permanent use.
With new moorings designed with space in mind, the cruiser marina is able to accommodate a wide range of craft, from the small day boat to the enormous Dutch barge up to 25 meters (82 feet) in length. The facility has been specially designed with security in mind meaning your investment is safe and time spent at the marina is relaxed and hassle free.

Survey Result
Thank you very much to all those who took the time and made the effort to give us their views. We are happy to see that most of our efforts meet with your approval and are well received. A few points warrant a comment however.
After an effective rearranging session in the chandlery we managed to fit all the stock into the smaller space. However we have started a “wishlist” so come and tell us what you are missing. We will permanently stock items if they are mentioned more than a few times. Please remember that you are welcome to place a special order for non-stock items, delivery time about a week.
Some berth holders have commented on the sometimes quite low water pressure in the pontoons. We have had Thames Water in to do measurements and check to make sure we do not have any leaks; and we are looking into other possible measures.
Hopefully most of the issues some of you have raised about security have now been sorted with the repositioning of the Cruiser pedestrian gate.
We carry out regular checks around the marina but can we please ask you if you notice a faulty light etc. to come and tell us, with the exact location.

5 Gold Anchors
As most of you will have noticed we are now a Five Gold Anchor Marina. Thank you for keeping things tidy and clean while we were assessed. Please help us maintain that standard by keeping your pontoon clear, and leaving the toilets as you would like to find them. Please also keep all water hoses and electric leads out of the water for safety and hygiene.
Sea Toilets
It has been brought to our attention that not everyone is familiar with the rules regarding sea toilets. Using sea toilets on the Thames is an offence and carries a very heavy fine. Any boats suspected of this can be boarded and inspected.
I.C.E.
Please can we ask you all to inform us of next of kin that we can get hold of In Case of an Emergency.
Newsletters on Bulletin Boards
We will be displaying the most recent newsletter on the bulletin boards for your convenience.
The Waterfront
Keep an eye on the black board in the bistro for new menu items. The popular Pub Quiz has moved to Fridays, so come and join in the fun. More fun can be had on Wednesday’s Wii Sports night. Karaoke can be arranged if desired.

Vehicles
In order to ensure that adequate parking remains available, from 1st January 2010 you will receive parking permits (maximum 2 vehicles per boat). Please park all transit van sized or larger vehicles in the allotted van parking area. Furthermore, we are unable to allow campervans, mobile homes or caravans to be permanently parked anywhere on marina grounds.
Please prevent children playing in the car park. They are welcome to play on the big lawn, but for their safety the car park is not a playground.
Anchors and Ropes
Please show consideration when mooring up. Anchors overhanging the pontoon and ropes creating a trip hazard can be dangers that your fellow berth holders are not always aware of. Make sure your anchor is fended so heads are protected.

Geese - a Crash Course
Unfortunately the Canada Geese are here to stay. They are very difficult to get rid of unless shot during the hunting season. And since we would risk putting holes in both boats and berth holders we have given up on that idea. It is very important that nobody feeds them as that will just reinforce their connection to this place. Furthermore they produce droppings at a rate of one every 6 minutes when feeding and a lot of that ends up on our pontoons. So the advice to try and dissuade them from hanging out in the marina is twofold: do not feed them, and chase them off the pontoons as often as possible.
Toilet Cassettes
It is not only common courtesy to cover the trolley with a bin liner or similar before using it to carry your cassette, it is also a health hazard if you do not. The trolleys are used for food and other things that should be kept far away from possible contaminants.
Location Location Location
If you fall in love with a certain berth on the marina come and see us. Even if it is not available right away we can book you in so it will be offered to you when it becomes available. There are a few berths with a waiting list already.

And Sadly . . .
We now have to remind you all that it may soon be time to prepare for winter. Remember to get your winterizing supplies in time for the winter shut down of your boat.
Also please remember that we cannot guarantee uninterrupted electricity and water so make provisions for sudden droughts etc. This also means that depending on electric heating to safeguard your boat from the ravages of winter is not the way to go!
We usually have a few loose covers blowing about the marina in the autumn storms so please make sure it isn’t yours by fastening all covers securely and using frapping lines.
May we please also remind you all that it is absolutely not allowed to move your boat around if there is ice on the marina. Remember that the pontoons can become very slippery when wet or icy, and take extra care.

Cats and Pontoons
We welcome both cats and dogs on this marina but lately a few problems have arisen which need addressing. Criminal damage has been done to pontoons when people remove boards to get their cat out without securing the boards again afterwards. Another problem is that we have had complaints about cats fouling on boats, which is obviously unacceptable. Please provide adequate litter facilities and train your cat to use them.
Last Days of Summer
Hurry out and enjoy them. We never know how wet next year is going to be. Safe travels to you all.
