Pyrford Marina lies alongside the River Wey Navigation which stretches over 20 miles through the heart of Surrey. This inland waterway, uniquely, is owned by the National Trust thus ensuring it against unsympathetic development and preserving its historic locks and keepers cottages. The "busiest" stretch of the waterway passes through the centre of Guildford, historic county town of Surrey.
It is a tranquil and beautiful spot and it is hard to imagine that it is set close to such a highly developed part of the country (just 2 miles from junction 10 of the M25). The River Wey was made navigable in the 17th century and was hugely important in the movement of heavy cargoes. Today it is the setting for brightly painted, traditional narrowboats, and smaller inland, narrowbeam cruisers moving at an unhurried 4 knots or slower!
The River Thames can be joined less than 5 miles away giving access to the Grand Union Canal, Kennet & Avon Canal and Oxford Canal. Also, nearby is access to the 32 miles of the
Basingstoke Canal. There are attractive canalside pubs to visit and a footpath runs from Pyrford Bridge to the nearby Royal Horticultural Society Gardens at Wisley.
